Here are two new coordinated scrapbook page sketches with free layered templates for digital scrapbooking. Use one of these singly or, when you’re making a multi-page album, these sketches complement each other well.

This sketch makes a “pretty” page and offers lots of opportunity to have fun with borders and embellishments. On the layout below, three spots are isolated by white space and each of these spots can be treated as a cluster to be embellished individually AND as part of a whole. You can back up the main photo with paint, rub-ons, mist, and the digital equivalents of any of these. I used Katie Pertiet’s From My Bookshelf Blendables No 3 to both create a foundation for my focal point and provide a page title.

Here are three new coordinated scrapbook page sketches with free layered templates for digital scrapbooking. Use one of these singly or when you’re making a multi-page album, these sketches complement each other well.

Consider that the blocks on any of these can be easily modified: combine small blocks to accommodate one larger photo, break up larger blocks to hold your photo and and embellishments or paper blocks that fill the space; don’t worry about all of the edges lining up–the charm here is in the casual approach to the blocked design.

This sketch was great for a holiday page that includes 5 photos in a variety of sizes as well as several pretty papers and trims.

Scrapbooking Your Photos “One Month at a Time” December 2011

I’m not sure why, but it always surprises me when a year ends. It feels quick and abrupt, even with 365 days notice. But, alas, here it is, and in a moment it will be 2012 – a Leap Year, an Election Year (US), an international Year of Cooperatives – as declared by the United Nations… oh and the apocalypse. Obviously I don’t believe in the last one. But it is an interesting why to live the year, kind of puts a live-out-loud-make-every-moment-count spin on life. Hmm, now that I’m thinking on it – it will make a great theme for the upcoming One Month at a Time series…

For now, let’s finish what we started. This final month of the year brought about quite a bit of chaos here at the Taylor house. There is nothing more dreadful to a mom of four active boys than “Winter Break”– the time when teachers get so tired of dealing with kids and holiday excitement, they opt to leave us mothers to our own resources. Fine – I may be exaggerating a little, but, wow, my kids have been drinking from the crazy fountain lately.

When I was scrapbooking a day spent in Boston at a show and then going out to dinner, I needed more than a one-page layout to get all the photos into my album — but i didn’t really want to make a two-page spread. These coordinated designs worked well — allowing me to scrapbook the show on one page and time with friends and dinner on a second page.

One Month at a Time – June 2011

Yikes! Half the year has flown by.

I could easily blame life or the fact that, with four boys at home, the only mode we know is “go”. If I’m being honest, though, it’s because I don’t choose to slow down and breathe.

Our June was non-stop from the last day of school to our return from vacation (a roadtrip to Michigan to visit my family). Most of the vacation I spent worrying the kids weren’t having “enough” fun. When I think back now, it was a blast hanging out at my dad’s house. Grandpa has candy dishes sitting out for the taking; he lets you eat in the living room; and you have free reign on the all the pop and chips you can handle.

I came home with two extra kids in tow: my niece and nephew so then I spent more time worrying about whether they were enjoying their vacation.

Now it’s July, and I’m trying to find some semblance of a routine. Since I make my own routine, I have no excuses for the speed of my life. I’ve decided I’m going to spend my birthday month practicing the fine art of simply ‘being.’

I have a raft and a slushie maker, and I even purchased a few drink umbrellas from the dollar store to enhance the atmosphere. It’s the lazy days of summer, and–gosh darn it–that’s how I plan to spend my Summer of 2011!

Thankfully, one thing I don’t have to worry about is my monthly scrapbooking. Here’s my June layout:

One Month at a Time – April 2011

Howdy do! April was a busy month with lots of holidays to celebrate. In our home we usually celebrate Easter, but this year we decided to forgo the candy and tooth decay for a modest gift for each of the boys and dinner with family.

My five-year-old has been asking for a scooter for about six months, I finally broke down and got him one. At the same time, my oldest son turned 16 and got his braces off! I love how they both had the same level of excitement for completely different things.

And now I am moving on to May. My goal for May is to RELAX. I have a huge trip across country in a car full of male family members to go visit family back in Michigan. I hope at the end of this month my May layout has a ton of photos of my feet propped up and books I’ve read, and perhaps one of me napping! Enjoy your May and I’ll ‘see’ you next month! While you are enjoying your May, the last month before the summer craze begins, remember to take photos and keep track of your memories.

One Month at a Time – March 2011

March is both my dad’s and my brother’s birthday month. My dad’s birthday is on the Ides of March, so each year I chide him that something bad is going to happen. Each year he has dinner with his closest friend; happily I report, nothing bad happens. Each year I call my brother and ask what fun things he has planned, so far for the fourth year running, he worked a double shift at his job. This year, I vowed to do something exciting and fun for mine. So if my post about the month of July doesn’t include some amazing story of a fun time please feel free to spam my inbox with ads about getting medications from foreign countries.

For the Taylor house, March held major lifestyle changes. I signed my oldest son up for a gym membership, the three oldest up for Judo lessons, and the youngest for gymnastics. We now have something we do each day of the week, and I love it. I love that we get out and physically do something. I even love that after spin class, I came home and literally passed out on the couch. I forgot how much I missed exerting myself to exhaustion. Getting healthy is just an added bonus. I also got to play in my studio. What a ton of fun it was making this spring sheArt canvas during the workshop I took.

One Month at a Time – February 2011

Another month reminding me I don’t take photos enough. So, I started Project Life. Thus, next month, you’ll get to listen to me discuss how I had to narrow down what photos to include! I did run around the house to grab a shot of each of my boys (except Austin who was still snoozing off a weekend long Call of Duty Tour – the game not a real tour)

How did you scrapbookers do? Is everyone caught up? How are you making sure you grab shots of your life regularly? I reminded myself of the value of photos by organizing and looking through old pages. Seeing how much of my life has changed from my kids faces to the place we live reminded me it will all change again and I need to document what’s going on now.

Here’s a great sketch from Debbie to scrapbook your February. I have full intentions of using this sketch often I love that extra long photo on the far right. I also used a freebie kit from Persnickety Prints called Biker Boys (check out their facebook page for more details).

Journaling: (top left) This month was pretty relaxing. I got my studio all finished - cleaned, purged and organized. I spent a LOT of time in there as did most of the boys. We did head up to Mt. Charleston to see the snow Zach & Keagan appreciated the excursion. I also made it back to the gym, and the elder boys seem to be digging themselves out of their groundings. All in all a great month! (mid-right) Austin finally got ungrounded from video games, I think he spent the entire month sleeping or shooting foes.

I’m looking forward to seeing what everyone else is doing. I hope you’ll share a link to your work here in the comments.
