How It Works

The first thing you can do to get an idea of how classes work here is to check out this peek of one particular class — it gets the idea across

How does this whole online class thing work? Most of them go this way:

*********SELF PACED CLASSES************
Upon purchase you’ll receive a link to download a pdf (a document you can open with Adobe Reader to save, print, or read on the screen). That document will either contain all of the material OR it will contain links to every lesson (each of these will be in individual pdf documents). Within 24 hours (if you’ve got a username in the forums that we can match up to your purchasing username or email address) you’ll receive access to a private forum where you can ask questions of the teacher and share your own work and thoughts with teacher and other participants.

********WORKSHOPS****************

FORUMS
For any class you take, once you are registered, you receive access to all of the forums on the Get It Scrapped Message Board for that class. If the class has already begun you will receive access within 24 hours–usually much sooner. If the class has not yet begun, you will receive access a few days before class starts and an email will be sent to notify you when you have access.

Each workshop usually has three forums:

  1. Welcome (where you hang out until class starts, getting to know your teacher and classmates and doing any getting ready activities needed);
  2. Blackboard (where the teacher will post class materials on class days); and
  3. Talk (where you can ask questions, share info, and just yak with the teacher, class designers and other participants).

RECEIVING CLASS MATERIALS
On each of the scheduled class days a new class is available. You’ll see it announced in the class forum by something like: “Hey! Over Here for Class #1.” The “class” is a document in .pdf format. You’ll click on it and open it up with Adobe Reader. You don’t have to download the class right on the day it’s posted. It’ll be around for at least three months. You may save the lesson to your hard drive. You may read the lesson on your screen. You may print the lesson. There’s no “getting behind” on these classes — you do them as you have time.

SHARING YOUR WORK
As you receive the class materials, you’ll hopefully be scrapping along with the lessons. We have a GALLERY here where you can show us what you’ve done. In addition to the public albums in the gallery, each class has it’s own private albums for participants.

MESSAGE BOARD YAKKING

The class forums on this message board are a place where all participants may “chat” with each other by making posts. I think the easiest way to follow what’s going on in the forum is to click on “View New Posts” up at the top right of the forum screen. I’ll start class-related threads and I hope you all will start threads as you have questions, observations, or just want to yak. You check the forums and post comments on your own schedule. Teachers and designers are checking the forums regularly throughout the duration of the class and a bit beyond.
